Employees of the Russian carrier Orenair have sent a letter to president Putin, after it was disclosed on December 25th that Orenair will cease flights and lay off its staff. The managment of the company has decided, that flights will cease after March 26th and the carrier will loose its AOC by June 1st. According to the unions a total of 2500 employees will loose their jobs.

As reported previously, Orenair as well as Donavia will merge with another daughter company of Aeroflot - Rossiya. The unions now fear that Rossiya will employ crews and personell of Transaero, which went bankrupt in October last year, instead of the Orenair crews. According to union leaders, Rossiya already hired about 900 ex-Transaero stewardesses and there are no vacant positions for Orenair stewardesses left. In the letter to Putin they request guarantees that they will not be left out without a job as the current Orenair bases in Orenburg and Rostov on Don are likely to close after the Rossiya merger.
