The daughter company of Aeroflot - Rossiya is set to take over part of the fleet of the bankrupt carrier Transaero. This intention has been disclosed in the investor presentation made public by Aeroflot yesterday. Rossiya is set to take over 24 ex-Transaero aircraft, consisting of 5 Boeing 767s, 5 Boeing 777s and 14 Boeing 747s.

After Transaero ceased operations in October, no russian airline was able to offer aircraft in high-density configuration which are demanded by russian touroperators. This market gap will now be filled by Rossiya, which is set to merge with two other Aeroflot daughter companies - Orenair and Donavia. After this merger, Rossiya will become one of the largest carriers in the local market, serving 48 domestic and 42 international routes. With the takeover of the ex-Transaero aircraft, Rossiya will also become the major carrier also in the charter segment, which prompted fears that carriers from the Aeroflot group will misuse their dominant position. The local industry regulator FAC already announced an investigation in this matter.
