Bratislava airport growth continues in January 2016, fueled by new flights of Ryanair and Pobeda the number of passengers has grown 44% compared to same month last year. A total of 97 808 passengers has used the airport in the Slovak capital, an increase of almost 31 000 more compared to January 2015. It is the best january result since 2009 and one of the highest year on year increases in the history of the airport. While the airport officials were not immediately ready to discuss further details, it is believed that the recently launched flights of Ryanair to Berlin and Pobeda to Moscow were generating more than half of the increase, while the rest would be thanks to better load factors on already existing Ryanair flights.
The airport is expected to continue its growth in double digits also in the upcoming months, although at a slightly lower pace. Further growth is expected throughout the year as Wizzair will launch new flights between Bratislava and Skopje by end of March and is expected to launch additional routes later this year. Rumored is a 3x weekly service to Sofia, while Bucharest and Belgrade are also amongst the possible destinations.
