Santa is not bringing good news to Košice airport and passangers on flights from Košice to Milan. The route will be cancelled by the carrier over low demand. The route to Bergamo will be axed almost immediately - just above the mandatory 14 days advance notice, with last flight departing on January 11th. The passangers which are booked on flights after this date have been notified by e-mail and will receive a full refund for their tickets.

The cancellation of the routes confirms fears that the catchment area of the second largest city in Slovakia can not sustain the rapid growth it seen recently and flights to so many destinations. While Wizzairs flights to London can generate sufficient demand to fill a 180 seat Airbus 320, many destinations can not, as the example of Bergamo shows. In this case a more business oriented product with smaller aircraft and more weekly flights would be the better choice. The flights to Bergamo were operated with a Košice based aircraft, so the carrier will need to find another route from Košice, which will hopefully be more demanded than the link to Milan.
